GL Garrad Hassan North America is looking to recruit a Senior Electrical Engineer for the Electrical Engineering Group responsible for supporting the strong growth of GL GH Electrical Engineering consulting services in North America. This position is responsible for a range of electric power systems engineering duties including design, independent engineering and due diligence, in support of Investor Services, Turbine, Energy, Offshore, Solar, Measurements, and other groups as the need may arise.
This position can be based in any three of GL Garrad Hassan North America offices Montreal, Quebec; Ottawa or Toronto, Ontario. |
| Duties: | ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
� Develop and enhance GL GH expertise and reputation in onshore and offshore wind power and solar electrical power balance of plant engineering and power systems analysis;
� Provide electrical balance of plant engineering services including detailed design and specification, and detailed design review including:
o Plans and specifications;
o Design calculations and studies;
o Equipment submittals;
o Test and commissioning documentation;
o Construction job books and QA/QC documentation;
o Electrical system compliance with interconnection, code and contract requirements;
o Conduct periodic construction monitoring site inspections of projects;
o Write detailed reports of reviews and inspections
� Establish and maintain professional electrical engineering licensure in multiple states, including monitoring and completion of continuing education requirements;
� Manage projects; Supervise and mentor electrical engineers; Coordinate and manage personnel and work provided from other GL GH groups and subcontractors;
� Prepare proposals including scope of service, schedule, budget, and documentation requirements;
� Apply comprehensive knowledge of the North American electric power system, including:
o Regulatory and reliability framework applicable to renewable energy development, interconnection and operations (FERC, NERC, other);
o Current and developing market structures and power purchase arrangements;
o Current and developing Independent System Operator and Regional Transmission Organization protocols and differences applicable to renewable generation;
o Constraints to renewable energy development and upgrades planned and in progress;
� Represent GL GH in relevant industry groups including NERC, Utility Wind Integration Group, IEEE, American Wind Energy Association and others to bolster GL GH presence and maintain technical expertise;
� Participate in ISO/RTO working groups to establish and maintain regional expertise;
The Senior Electrical Engineer will be responsible for managing multiple projects. The engineer will be responsible for communicating and resolving technical issues with Clients, and traveling to projects in all parts of the country to perform ongoing site inspections related to construction progress on electrical and related installation. The engineer is responsible for addressing concerns and issues of the Client related to the project, placing a premium on the Client�s time. The engineer is required to thoroughly understand a broad range of power systems engineering including generation, distribution, transmission, substation, protection systems, and related control and communications systems. The position requires familiarity with power systems analysis including power flow, short circuit, and related, and the ability to use and learn computer analysis software applications.
The position requires familiarity with related disciplines involved in wind and other renewable power project construction including theory and practical knowledge of mechanical and civil engineering. The position requires familiarity with economic assessment of capital projects including life cycle cost analysis. Detailed knowledge of, or ability to deduce, such technical details without technical specialist assistance is not required. However, the successful candidate must be conversant in such details and articulate them to lay persons relying upon GL GH interpretation of such issues.

| Qualifications: | TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge/experience with:
� Generation, transmission, substation, and distribution system engineering, construction and operations;
� Power system simulation and analysis;
� Electrical construction contracts, and project finance;
� Management of projects and staff in a technical consultancy or similar environment;
� Utility-scale generation and interconnection; including process, requirements and implementation;
� Power purchase contracts, electric power system regulatory compliance, and market structures;
� Electrical and construction safety including training and requirements.
FUNDAMENTAL QUALIFICATIONS:
� Fluent in Microsoft Office products;
� Writing and communication skills must be excellent;
� Able to establish and maintain good relations with clients;
� Proficient in business development situations.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
� BS in Electrical Engineer (BSEE) with emphasis in power engineering from an ABET accredited 4 year university. MSEE a plus, P.E. preferred

� Licensed Professional Electrical Engineer
